paulfp: In The Media

Award-Winning!

In June 2018 I was announced as a winner of Electromaker’s Connectivity Contest for my Raspberry Pi Smart Door Lock project with Switched On Network.

HackSpace / Raspberry Pi Magazine Tutorials

I have written several tutorial articles, including:

Candis Magazine, May 2017

On April Fools’ Day 2014, I was the victim of a cash-for-crash scam on a roundabout just outside the office complex where I worked. Unluckily for the scammer, my company was based in the same building as where she worked, so it was pretty hard for her to hide afterwards. A few months later when she tried to initiate a crash again, I had my dashcam running and after viewing the footage the police went to have some stern words!

I was recently asked by Candis Magazine if I thought accident and personal injury claim calls should be banned:

The Sunday Times, 27 July 2014

The Sunday Times spoke to me to get some tips on consumer spending and making money go further. They did a great job of condensing down a wide-ranging discussion and interview into a photo caption! 😉

The Times, 6 December 2013

The the wake of the December 2013 budget from then-Chancellor George Osborne, The Times spoke to me about this would affect my family and me on a personal level, and how it would affect me from a business standpoint.

The Times Higher Education Supplement, April 2006

(Amusingly, the “journalist” who wrote this piece either didn’t understand how contextual-based advertising worked back then, or chose not to let that get in the way of a good story!)

The Guardian Newspaper, May 2006

BBC News 24, May 2006

Towards the end of my second year of University, I was involved in protesting against industrial action which I saw as unfairly affecting the education I was working hard for and paying a lot of money for. I set up an online petition using software I’d written myself, and it ended up going national and earning me a slot on BBC News 24 which was shown every 15 minutes for two days straight!

I also got involved in organising a march around the campus of Liverpool University, and other students feature in the video clip below:

BBC Radio Merseyside, Summer 2006

I was interviewed live in the studio regarding the AUT’s Assessment Boycott and the unfairly negative effect this was having on paying students’ education.

BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, Summer 2006

I was interviewed for Radio 1’s Newsbeat programme regarding the same AUT Assessment Boycott.

Both those radio appearances were in the days before iPlayer and as everything was pretty last minute I wasn’t organised enough to ensure they were recorded. I think I have the Radio Merseyside one recorded on a MiniDisc (yes!!!) in my loft somewhere, so I’ll dig it out one day…
